This work is of my own personal vision and understanding of spiritual transformation. Drawing inspiration from the emotions felt by the human spirit, the photos come together as one body of work, exploring a natural barren landscape in response to a journey that can only occur between you and God.
Charles Spurgeon once stated that “being born again is an event so mysterious that human words cannot describe it”.

Passage of Lustral rites
This work is my expression of repentance and spiritual cleansing in the form of ritual purification (lustral rites).
Ritual purification is a feature in many religions.

In the rituals of Catholicism, sins are forgiven through absolution in confession,
One can’t be reborn without true repentance. So in order to be "Reborn" one must be truly repentant of past sinful ways. In Old Testament times in the Bible, Christians donned sackcloth and covered themselves in ashes as an outwardly sign of true repentance, a type of "mortification of the flesh".

By the light

Light is all around us in many forms, we are always drawn to it. It is an Instinctual behaviour originating

from our ancestors who first inhabited the Earth. The human affinity for light is a means of survival

because the more light our Ancestors seen the more likely they were able to find food shelter and

companionship and the less likely they were able to be eaten by predators.

This Instinct is called phototropism (Latin for light attracted) to be in the light spiritually is a good place,

just as being in the darkness is a bad place.

My Lord "Jesus Christ" is the Lord of Light,

To live in darkness we would not see the beauty of life nor feel the intense warmth of the Sun.

These are my expressions of light.

This piece is based on three maps, a map of my area, Dublin City Centre and IADT in Dunlaoghaire. Each map is constructed twice, representing the duality of Spirit and flesh and although they are joined and are the same, they are opposites. Amidst all the chaos of the maze is the light, representing Gods perpetual presence, creating a balance that leads me through all life’s difficulties and decisions Lodestar is a star used to guide the course of a ship.
The ship is my soul,
The Lodestar “God” the captain..

The “Tree of life” is an important symbol signifying the connection between heaven, earth and the underworld.
The tree branches are an expression of life’s paths and its complexities. They twist, turn, overlap, entangle, burn out, bear pain, some lead nowhere and some straight up.

The angel and the girl are met, earth was the only meeting place. For the embodied never yet travelled beyond the shore of space.
The eternal spirits in freedom go.

See, they have come together, see, while the destroying minutes flow, each reflects the other's face, till heaven in hers and earth in his, shine steady there. He's come to her from far beyond the farthest star, feathered through time. Immediacy of strangest strangeness is the bliss, that from their limbs all movement takes. Yet the increasing rapture bring, so great a wonder that it makes,

Each feather tremble on his wings.

Outside the window footsteps fall, into the ordinary day and with the sun along the wall, pursue their unreturning way, sound's perpetual roundabout rolls its numbered octaves out and hoarsely grinds its battered tune b
ut through the endless afternoon these neither speak nor movement make. But stare into their deepening trance,

As if their grace would never break.

The Angel and the girl, poem by Edwin Muir.
